Dahua camera technologies — what the names actually mean
Dahua product names are full of keywords: WizSense, WizMind, Xinghan, TiOC, WizColor, Dual Light, ePoE, AcuPick. These are not marketing noise — each name means a specific capability that a camera either has or does not. Below they are explained, together with advice on when each one actually matters.
1. AI platforms: WizSense, WizMind, Xinghan
The most important distinction. These three are not separate features but product series — they determine how clever the camera is and what it can tell apart in the image.
— the everyday AI series
Cameras with a dedicated AI chip and deep learning algorithms. They distinguish people and vehicles from other movement and support perimeter protection. In Dahua's own words the series is for those seeking a balance of cost and performance. It is the most common series in our range.
— the project AI series
The project-oriented top series, adding industry-specific analytics: face recognition, ANPR (licence plate recognition), video metadata, stereo analysis and counting, privacy protection and thermal cameras. It spans IP cameras, NVRs, PTZ and the software platform.
— new-generation large AI models
Dahua's new-generation large AI model platform (L, V and M series). Unlike the earlier approach it analyses the scene as a whole. In practice that means:
- Perimeter reaches further — detects targets as small as 20×20 pixels in the image, so it works at greater distance with fewer false alarms
- WizTracking — roughly 50% better tracking accuracy; the target is not lost when it briefly passes behind cover or turns away
- Alarm rules in natural language — a rule can be described in text rather than drawn and configured
- Situation-aware setup — the camera assesses the scene and proposes settings
2. Night vision: IR, Dual Light, Full-color, WizColor
The second place where the choice often goes wrong. The question is not “can the camera see in the dark” — they all can. The question is whether you see colour.
Dual Light Dual Light
The camera has both infrared illumination and a warm/white LED. By default IR is used (monochrome image, no visible light). When the AI detects a person or vehicle, the white light switches on and the image turns colour. When the target leaves, the light goes off and IR resumes.
Full-colour cameras are built to deliver colour images in very low light. Smart Dual Light adds clever logic on top: the warm light only turns on for a detected target rather than running constantly — so you get colour footage with far less light pollution.

Dahua's top-tier night vision, where three things work together: an F1.0 aperture (2.5× more light than F1.6), a large pixel size sensor and AI-ISP image processing. The result is colour at night without supplementary lighting, and noticeably less motion blur.
Starlight Starlight
An older but still common designation for an ultra-sensitive sensor — colour detail down to 0.005 lux.
3. Active deterrence: TiOC
— three in one
TiOC (Three-in-One Camera) combines 24/7 full colour, active deterrence and AI. The difference from an ordinary camera is fundamental: an ordinary camera provides evidence after the incident, TiOC intervenes during it.
When a target is detected, a flashing red-blue light and a siren of up to 110 dB are triggered. Dahua notes that red-blue is more eye-catching than white light and remains visible in dense fog and heavy rain. False alarms are held back by perimeter protection together with SMD, which filters out animals, leaves and headlights.
4. Analytics and search
SMD SMD — smart motion detection
Ordinary motion detection reacts to any pixel change: rain, branches, shadows, cats. SMD (Smart Motion Detection) lets through only people and vehicles and filters out the rest — newer versions also small and large animals.

AcuPick is search within recorded footage. From a single reference image the system finds everywhere else that person or vehicle appeared. The algorithm looks at body shape, clothing colour and other distinguishing features.
AcuPick 2.0 adds: search by faces and animals, pre-search by attributes (for example “red jacket”), movement trajectories on a map and batch management. It also works in AI by NVR mode, where the recorder does the analysis — so it can be used with older or third-party cameras too.
Auto Tracking Auto Tracking
A PTZ camera feature: when a target breaks a rule, the camera locks it in the centre of the frame and follows by panning and zooming. Auto Tracking 3.0 tracks smaller targets, up to 1,500 m in ideal conditions, and holds the target through occlusion, crossing traffic and changes in lighting.

X-Spans is a PTZ camera with one or two fixed lenses added. The result is a single device delivering a panoramic view of up to 180° and a detail image at the same time. The panoramic channel is never interrupted — while the PTZ part pans, tilts and zooms onto a specific event.
The channels are linked: when a person or vehicle breaks a rule on the panoramic channel, the detail channel starts tracking it automatically and zooms in on the target (up to 42×). The traditional approach — a separate bullet camera and a separate PTZ that have to be configured to work together — is replaced by one device.

MultiVision combines several cameras into one device using a single IP address, delivering multiple separate images. The multi-lens design covers several directions at once, and panoramic stitching gives an uninterrupted wide view — one device where several would previously have been needed.
As with X-Spans, the panoramic and detail channels can be linked: when a rule is broken, the detail channel starts tracking the target. Each channel can run its own analytics. MultiVision 2.0 already uses Xinghan vision models.
5. Connection and power: PoE and ePoE
— when 100 metres is not enough
Ordinary PoE delivers power and data to the camera over the same cable, but stops at 100 metres. ePoE uses different coding (2D-PAM3) and takes the same thing considerably further — at the cost of speed.
ePoE can also run over existing coaxial cable, which is worth its weight in gold when upgrading an old analogue system: no need to pull new cable.
