WD Purple WD11PURZ is a 1 TB surveillance hard drive for recorders that run around the clock. WD Purple is Western Digital's surveillance-dedicated line — the same role as Seagate SkyHawk and Toshiba S300. An ordinary desktop drive is built for short bursts of work; surveillance writes to the drive continuously and wears it out fast.

Key Advantages and Features:

  • AllFrame technology: Western Digital's surveillance firmware reduces dropped frames when several cameras write at once.
  • 180 TB workload per year: Up to three times that of an ordinary desktop drive.
  • Up to 64 cameras: One drive handles the streams of a small or mid-sized system.

1 TB is the smallest WD Purple capacity — it suits a one- or two-camera system, or a site that records only on motion. For continuous recording or more cameras, choose a larger drive. It fits recorders with up to eight bays; for a larger array, WD Purple's 3 TB and above also add rotational vibration sensors.
