NSW SP-07-03 protects a video line, a 230 V mains feed and an RS485 control bus at the same time. A surge protector diverts the overvoltage caused by a lightning strike or a switching event to earth before it reaches the equipment. It goes at the end of the line, with the protected device behind it.
